(TMJ) DYSFUNCTION

Chiropractors are trained to correct problems due to poor joint mechanics and joint misalignments. Chiropractic treatment of the TMJ focuses on joint mobilizations, adjustments and soft tissue techniques applied directly to the TMJ and its surrounding musculature.

In most cases, TMJ Dysfunction is influenced or exacerbated by poor joint mechanics, and tight musculature in the upper back and neck.

Therefore, of equal importance, Chiropractic care also focuses on corrections to the mechanics and positioning of the joints in the upper back and neck to relieve symptoms associated with TMJ disorders.

When these treatments are employed, motion of your upper back, neck and jaw joints can improve your symptoms such as: ear pain, jaw locking, headaches, and neck pain can be reduced or eliminated.

Avoiding harmful fluid retention and makes the body’s immune system *Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy & Neuromuscular Techniques.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY (CST): assesses and treats the mobility of the skull, it may also be used to treat the spine, sacrum and other parts of the body. The goal is to adjust the body’s physiology by restoring optimal balance and neuro-vascular flow surrounding the (CNS) central nervous system.

VISCERAL MANIPULATION: is used to effectively treat organs and viscera of the body. (heart, lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys, stomach, pancreas, intestines, bladder & uterus) Visceral manipulations can improve the mobility of an organ, improve neuro-vascular flow surrounding the organ and ultimately help maximize organ function.

KARIN A. LORENTO- (MSc, DOMP) MANUAL OSTEOPATHIC PRACTITIONER

Karin A. Lorento had a long journey on her way to becoming a Manual Osteopath: she brings to the table a unique blend of national strength and conditioning, applied kinesiology, and osteopathic sciences, giving her a broad-spectrum view on movement and human physiology.  Karin graduated university the first time around with a double major in social sciences from the University of Guelph in 2004 leading to a career in social work.  It was years later during the pursuit of personal passions that Karin’s career took a hard-right turn towards health sciences, directing her into personal training and leading her to continue her education in applied kinesiology.  Karin obtained her professional certification in Human Performance Development in 2011 from Sheridan College, and at the encouragement of her mentor, was accepted into a pilot MSc program at A. T. Still University of Osteopathic Sciences in Arizona which she completed with a specialization in clinical psychology in 2014. After graduation, it was merely days before head-hunters recruited Karin as the local National Strength and Conditioning Specialist contracted to the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association. Over the last several years, Karin has been dedicated to working with special populations Paralympic and provincial-level wheelchair athletes. Such a unique field comes with its own set of challenges with chronic pain being at the root.  When her alma matter offered to financially support her continued education towards completing her Manual Osteopathy Degree, Karin jumped at the opportunity to add to her professional toolbox. Manual Osteopathy has provided Karin the ability to take her athlete’s and patient’s chronic pain into her own hands: through treating all the systems as one (craniosacral, visceral, and musculoskeletal) and gently encouraging realignment through hands-on manipulation, Karin is able to effectively manage and mitigate the chronic pain associated with a variety of ailments, with her specializing in spinal cord injuries and neurodegenerative illnesses such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis. HILLARY NIEMAN- (M.OMSC, BA KIN) MANUAL OSTEOPATHIC PRACTITIONER

Hillary is an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner that graduated from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy in 2022. She has always been deeply interested in anatomy and physiology. After completing her Kinesiology degree at Western University in 2015, Hillary gained experience in multiple fields such as long term care, chronic pain, and traumatic brain injury. Choosing to pursue osteopathic education in 2018, she has seen first-hand the positive impact osteopathic manual therapy can have on her patient’s health. She believes that the body is a resilient dynamic unit of function, and strives to ensure every part is able to function harmoniously. Hillary is invested in providing comfort and relief to her patients in a relaxed setting. It is her goal to improve the quality of life of each and every patient.

Her treatment is gentle, non-invasive, and hands-on focusing on re-aligning the body and restoring movement. An Osteopathic Manual Practitioner is able to assess asymmetry within the anatomy of each individual patient, and apply a variety of techniques to treat the fascia, muscles, and ligamentous tissue. When the anatomy is unrestricted and each joint is moving properly, there is no excessive strain or load placed on one area of the body. This allows the nerves, arteries, veins, and lymphatic systems to flow freely. Osteopathic Manual Therapy can help restore health to all systems of the body.
